Welcome!

Hello, ATLBeer, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

Ah

[edit]

I concede that you were not a single-purpose account. However, you were participating in the HDDVD-Decoder Spam Attack. DS 12:43, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- If you read the full context of the email I sent you (and will post below) I wasn't participating in the attack. It was a new article that was created and I was adding relevant, and informative content to the page. The only other addition I made to the page was adding the hang__on tag to the page since it had been nominated for Speedy Deletion. I believe the page in question is relevant and bears relation to the DeCSS case. ATLBeer 23:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My email to DS

[edit]

I understand your attempt to clean up what appears to be concerted effort by users to create "non-sense" pages but, the issue of this HDDVD key is remarkably similar to the DeCSS case of 1999. The publishing and legal actions associated with this key is newsworthy as well. Also all of my edits to the page in question were simply adding content to page relating to the topic at hand, making the page more informative. My other edit was to add the hang__on tag to ensure that page wasn't immediately deleted strictly following Wikipedia procedures and rules.

If you and other administrators feel that this discussion should be contained to the HDDVD article, so be it but, none the less I believe an indefinite ban was quite trigger happy especially due to your reason ("single-purpose account that has served its single purpose"). That is quite an untrue statement which is immediately obvious when you just take a cursory glance at my contributions page

You can see I have edited and contributed multiple times before this evening dating back almost 2 years.

I'm politely asking you to reverse this ban.

Speedy deletion of Crystal Island

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Crystal Island requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
