[edit]I have started on this article but it really needs a lot more material. I suspect that relevant information is provided in other articles, inwhich case a merge is probably best. --ChrisJMoor 01:49, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Missing US terminology?
[edit]So far, this is a pretty good article. I'm just a little concerned that, while the content makes sense to non-American audiences, it would be nice to figure out how to integrate both the U.S. terminology and the non-U.S. terminology. For example:
UK terminology | US terminology | remarks |
---|---|---|
presenter | anchor | |
news bulletin / programme | newscast | In Britain bulletin=short news programme |
news flash | special report (sometimes) | |
running order | rundown | a technical term, I admit |
news editor | news director | not to be confused with videotape editor |
two-way | crosstalk (sometimes), satellite interview (sometimes) | |
link | toss | assuming I'm understanding "link" correctly as meaning reporter introductions |
I'd integrate this if I could, but it would really jumble the text, since it's important to keep this international. Any ideas? --Oddtoddnm 08:29, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
I've noticed that in Wales at least, and the rest of Britain, terminology even varies between individual newsrooms e.g. spares/standbys, oovs/ulays, sot/clip...etc!!! How do we rectify this? 12:39, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Proposals
[edit]Considering this article's emphasis, I propose changing its title to 'television news.' Otherwise, we'd need to include radio news information as well for completeness' sake. Aufheben 14:31, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
The section "Effects on Society" is rather poor, and also should possibly include the distortion of events in order to feed news cycles and how the format often constitutes an improper and unfair medium for reasoned rational debate as outlined by Pierre Bourdieu and Noam Chomsky in many publications. I will try to add to it if I have time. Jeshmir (talk) 15:11, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
WTF?
[edit]So after reading this article it seems that the only countries in the world with news TV are the USA and Canada? Eh? What a terrible article. If you are only able to write about a fraction of a topic (in this case just one sub-continent) then don't bother at all. Articles like this should be deleted. What about BBC, Al Jazera, STAR, France 24, Russia? --ЗAНИA talk WB talk] 08:53, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
FOX is NOT BROADCAST NEWS. It is cable news. This article is a lie — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C67:8E80:17B4:B87E:F1D4:DA2D:5D53 (talk) 17:19, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Hatnotes aren't this cheap
[edit]Many of us are familiar with WP:HATCHEAP. However, there are eight on this article. Can some of these dab hatnotes be rethought? schetm (talk) 18:13, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Proposed merge of News broadcasting into News program
[edit]The two articles are similar, and cover a lot of the same ground. Not to mention that News broadcasting has a lot of misinformation or bias. Anonymous 00:37, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: While News broadcasting and News program cover similar topics, the ladder should be merged into the former in some way, as it could help expand the article. News broadcasting is larger but still needs improvement, so doing as I suggested would be better. I have not yet formed an opinion if I should oppose or support this. MatEditzWiki — Talk!/Contribs!
- I think a merge or reorganization is a good idea, but I might be more inclined to do the reverse - merge News program into News broadcasting, as this title seems to encompass the broader topic (a news program is just a specific instance of news broadcasting). I think a long-term split out of "News broadcasting by country" would be a good idea too, at least once that section covers more than just two countries. SnowFire (talk) 19:29, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- Support merge into news broadcast, broadcast is the wider topic, and I'd support one article at that name. If there was a need for a WP:SPLIT later down the line I wouldnt be again an article in theory about news programs, but we clearly aren't in that position. - Merge News program into News broadcasting The articles discuss virtually the same concept, dissemination of news through broadcast journalism. A program is just a regularly scheduled broadcast, and thus most of what can be said about programs applies to broadcasting generally. TarkusABtalk/contrib 19:04, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- Support merge into News broadcasting. per above Eddie891 Talk Work 20:53, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- tend towards Support Splitting the two requires some serious hair splitting.©Geni (talk) 20:06, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
I have merged the articles, considering the amount of support here. Will probably require some more adjustments to work in the material from news program, but there wasn't a ton to merge anyway ( diff of the material taken from the news broadcast article).
