Why the distinction between the languages? Or as Emil Cioran said: "We dont't live in a county, but in a language". 82.82.117.83 20:17, 12 Nov 2003 (UTC)
Maybe Cioran didn't, but people live in a country. Curero 20:12, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
But because people have also lived in several countries, organizing these authors by country resulted in duplications. Elias Cannetti, for example, would have to be classified under Austria, England, and Romania. It seems to me that the individual page is the place to talk about these movements. Thus, I've decided to WP:BB and reorganize the list alphabetically. Organizing lists alphabetically seems the least contentious way. (Note: I've put I and J together for now, since their distinction is a newer invention anyway. If someone wants to separate them, I have no objection.) Universitytruth21:08, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I've reformatted to avoid value judgments: living authors get a bullet (so to speak) to signal that they are alive, rather than getting a bullet because one user thinks they are 'important.' That said, I think it is a long list, and it could be useful to those consulting wikipedia to see a more surveyable list involving value. But I might suggest that it would be then worth having an article like "Princeton's Ph.D. reading list" or "Harvard's M.A. reading list" or something like that. Does anyone know if that is ok from a copyright perspective? Anthony Krupp22:35, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
