[edit]The images Image:Virgin islands sm02.jpg and Image:British virgin islands sm02.jpg have been listed on Wikipedia:Images for deletion. They have been obsoleted by Image:Virgin islands sm02.png and Image:British virgin islands sm02.png.
Since these images were uploaded by you, you might want to go through the process of re-downloading the original GIFs and converting them to PNGs, then changing over the links and listing the old JPGs on IFD, as I've done here. I'll fix them as I see them. Grendelkhan 04:44, 2004 May 12 (UTC)
Ditto for Image:Kenya sm02.jpg. (If you don't want these notifications, let me know and I'll stop leaving them; I figured you might want to know where all your images are going.) Grendelkhan 05:25, 2004 May 12 (UTC)

WikiProject Unrecognized Countries
[edit]Hi Pascal, I noticed you had made contributions to Anjouan. If you're interested in Anjouan and similar places, why don't you drop by the WikiProject Unrecognized countries and help add some more depth to Wikipedia's coverage of these?
Be sure to visit the Project talk page, and if you are interested, you can become a member. Ambivalenthysteria 12:36, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- This is indeed interesting. I have added two little countries: Sealand and Principality of Minerva, I think they fit the unrecognized countries-category. I am general interested in small (island) nations, and the Comoros have my special interest.
Also added: Taiwan Pascal 16:15, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for that link. It's the best resource on some of the more obscure ones (such as Anjouan) that I've seen so far. It can be a bit painful to work out which ones actually got some functional independence, and which were just optimistic rebel movements, though. Ambi 09:02, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I found it also quite interesting, althought Anjouan is really not as obscure as some of the others. Agreed, we have to select the proper ones. (tip: check out the maps on this site http://www.buckyogi.com/footnotes/index.htm). Pascal 09:26, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- That's pretty handy too. Shame they only have maps of the Americas though. I wish the notes themselves had more dates, too. Ambi 09:34, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Unverified images
[edit]Hi! Thanks for uploading the following images:
- Image:Isla_mas_Afuera_Juan_Fernandez_(Chile).jpg
- Image:Isla_mas_Atierra_Juan_Fernandez_(Chile).jpg
- Image:Isle_of_Youth_(Cuba).jpg
- Image:Dualgauche.jpg
I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 22:24, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)
P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.
Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
- This copyright issue is way off my interests. It is far to complicated (multi-license version 1 or version 2???, I don't want to get involved in things like this.). GFDL is fine for me, I think - I have added this to my page. I believe it is impossible to find out the exact copyright situation of a certain page when there are more then a dozen possible copyright situations for every user who made an edit. Copyright tag
[edit]This is concerning the following images:
As part of the Wikipedia:Untagged Images project, I have tagged it as possibly unfree because I could not determine its copyright status. It seems likely that it is in the public domain but I didn't have enough information to tag it that way. You can help this project by applying Wikipedia:Image copyright tags to all of your uploaded images. Thank you, — Edwin Stearns | Talk 18:59, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Likewise:
Unfortunately, I don't have time to copyright stamp all images I have uploaded. I have however only uploaded maps that are according to my best knowledge not copyrighted. I have not used maps that were marked as copyrighted.
Regarding the maps, on the University of Texas map site it is stated: "Most of the maps scanned by the University of Texas Libraries and served from this web site are in the public domain. No permissions are needed to copy them. You may download them and use them as you wish. A few maps are copyrighted, and are clearly marked as such. Any that are copyrighted by The University of Texas are subject to our Materials Usage Guidelines. A few maps include the official seal of a U.S. Government agency. Federal law prohibits use of these seals in connection with any merchandise, impersonation, solicitation, or commercial activity in a manner reasonably calculated to convey the impression that such use is approved, endorsed, or authorized by the agency. We do appreciate hearing from you about your uses of these materials and we would also appreciate your giving this site credit when it is referred to in anything you publish. Other sites may link to our site or to individual maps without our permission."
I have added a copyright tag to Image:Kasparov-topalov.jpg. Pascal 23:46, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Cantons of Switserland
[edit]Greetings. I see you uploaded Image:Cantons of Switserland.jpg from [1], and added abbreviations. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the original image is in the public domain or not. Because of this, I'm adding the image to Wikipedia:Image recreation requests. If you know anything more about the copyright status of the image, or if you'd like to help make a replacement image, let us know! – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 15:43, Feb 2, 2005 (UTC)
Image copyright problem RE: Image:Florida Keys.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Florida Keys.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:
- The copyright holder, and
- The copyright status
The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.
Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: TAGHERE.
There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:
- An open content licence
- Public Domain
- Fair Use
- The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: . The GNU Free Documentation License is another choice for licencing one's work. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag: GFDL.
- The copyright holder can also release his work into the public domain, see here for images released into the public domain.
- Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments) However not all governments release their work into the public domain, such as the UK government (See herefor images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
- Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of Fair Use. To see if this image qualifies and then how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.
For any other sources of for more information see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that if you don't tag your images, they will be deleted.
- P.S. If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.
If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again.
Also you are hereby warned that from a week from now, any images you have uploaded which do not have a source and a copyright tag will be speedy deleted. You can find a list of your images by going to your contributions and selecting "image" from the dropdown box. Thue | talk 17:03, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- I have been inactive for a while, and I will be so in future also. Ín the past, I have added some pictures, and I always took care that they were free of copyright. I used pictures that were listed in the wikipedia list of copyleft images or I added them from sources that explicitly stated to be copyleft. Usually, I added the source in the comment while uploading the image. These images has been on wikipedia for some time, without somebody telling me that I was doing something wrong, but now I find that suddenly some have been deleted (which is a pity). In the post above I was giving a warning for a period of a week; however, since I am inactive this is not a proper time for me to notice this.
- I find it a pity that since I am less active the only comment I get is about copyrightissues, licenses and other procedural stuff, complete with annoying red windows (robot generated) which I have deleted.

Image copyright problem with Image:Comoros_coat_of_arms.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Comoros_coat_of_arms.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Tibet map.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Tibet map.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:41, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Message regarding your use of the No Multi License Template
[edit]In case you are not aware, the Wikimedia Foundation has proposed that the copyright licensing terms on the wikis operated by the WMF – including Wikipedia – be changed to include the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC-BY-SA) license in addition to the current GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) as allowed by version 1.3 of the GFDL. The community has approved this change with 75.8% in favor, and on June 15, 2009, the change will take effect.
You currently have NoMultiLicense on your user or user talk page, which states that your edits are licensed under the GFDL only. On or before June 15, this template will be changed to reflect Wikipedia's new licensing terms. If you accept the licensing change, you do not need to do anything (and feel free to remove this message); if you do not accept it, we regret that you will no longer be able to contribute to the encyclopedia. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#NoMultiLicense template if you have any comments.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
