[edit]Benny Morris, Righteous Victims, gives 1973 for the split from Fatah. Which is right? A 1973 split would enable Abu Nidal to take credit for the attack on Pan Am Flight 110 in that year. Gdr 14:43, 2004 Nov 17 (UTC)
Restoring content
[edit]This is not a copyvio! The paragraph which was supposedly plagiarized from http://www.fas.org/irp/world/para/ano.htm is originally from http://www.state.gov/s/ct/rls/pgtrpt/2003/31711.htm, which is a U.S. government publication, and therefore in the public domain. -- uriber 09:05, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- Why do you want to see a completely plagiarized article? I deleted the contents and redirected the page to Abu Nidal. The ANO was a group that was very much centered around the personality cult of Abu Nidal, so there is no need for a second ANO article, especially when it's simply been copied from someone else's website. SlimVirgin (talk) 18:02, May 7, 2005 (UTC)
- There are also factual errors in here (and no references), as follows: It was not known as Black September: it carried out a few joint operations with members of other groups and these were claimed as Black September — though with a few of them, Abu Nidal is believed to have planned them. The group was named after Abu Nidal only by Western intelligence agencies: that is not what the group called itself. It killed or injured over 900 (probably in fact around 1200), not almost 900. It has carried out attacks against all manner of Palestinians, not only moderates. It is not only suspected of assassinating Abu Iyad, but known to have done so. Its funds were not cut off by Middle Eastern governments (on the contrary: it was running a protection racket and govts were happy to pay to avoid trouble) and it arguably didn't need any funds anyway. It became a very wealthy group because of Abu Nidals' business interests; or rather, it became a group with access to wealth because he was the group. And it is not only the U.S. that has claimed the ANO received funds from Iraq, Libya, and Syria; and these were not the only govts who have funded him.
- I suggest you copy the material from the State Dept website and attribute it to them, so that the mistakes are seen to be theirs, not ours, and so that we're not simply plagiarizing; or rewrite it so that it's accurate, with references; or blank it and redirect to Abu Nidal. But it shouldn't really stay as it is. SlimVirgin (talk) 20:48, May 7, 2005 (UTC)
Wikipedia has many articles which were, at least initially, copied verbatim from public-domain sources (e.g. the CIA factbook, which is the primary source for all of the "Geography of <country>", "Politics of <country>", etc. articles). This is a common and legitimate way of starting articles, and is not plagiarism. (Although I agree with you that acknowledging the source is a good idea - I'll add it to the article).
You are very welcome to correct whatever factual errors you find here (I assume you have sources).
I do not agree that this should redirect to Abu Nidal. Certainly he was not the sole member of the organization. Also, for categorization purposes, it's useful to keep separate articles. I do agree that the article should be renamed to Fatah - the Revolutionary Council, so I'll do that. -- uriber 18:05, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
I really feel this page should restored, the Abu Nidal Organization was one the most notorious armed groups in Arab history, it demands it's own article. Charles Essie (talk) 22:39, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

In Belgium, Abu Nidal is well known for the longlasting captivity of a Belgian family sailing in the Meditteranean sea?
In that article it is mentionned.
I don't know enough about it to write about it myself.
Does anyone know more?
Category:Islamic organization
[edit]There's nothing Islamic about Fatah-RC, at least not unless the IRA is to be categorized as a Christian organization. And that would be weird, wouldn't it? Arre 10:31, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Black June/Black September
[edit]As far as i now, there is no name of the Abu Nidal Organisation like "Black June", but indeed only "Black September". Since someone seemed to believe to know what he/she did, I wont change it, but someone should check that. --Mandavi 23:24, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Proposed merger
[edit]I propose merging the content from Abu Nidal Organization internal executions to here. Both pages are short and would be better addressed under a single title. Iskandar323 (talk) 12:25, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose, as an internal purge involving an estimated 600 deaths seems like an independently notable event warranting distinct discussion. The pages are appropriate linked; my view is the current structure works for readers. Klbrain (talk) 22:36, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Closed, given the uncontested objection and no support. Klbrain (talk) 09:35, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
