[edit]I doubt we need both peoples and characters, one seems like a natural sub-list for the other. Oberiko 13:34, 19 Jun 2004 (UTC)
What about a new sub-category, "Books about Middle-earth"? (Or is there someone that could be expanded to include things other than books that are about Middle-earth but not either by someone named Tolkien or adaptations of something by Tolkien?) Or would they just go under "Middle-earth books"? --Aranel 18:19, 30 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Is there a significant amount of articles about books about Middle-earth? If not, then probably we should wait before such articles arise. Aris Katsaris 04:21, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Since there is currently no category for them, they're rather scattered. I'll see if I can compile a list. (I suppose they can go in Category:Middle-earth.) --Aranel ("Sarah") 17:38, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Right now I put them under "Middle-earth books". If their number grows so much that we'll need to separate them from the rest we can do it then. Aris Katsaris 19:07, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Two new categories proposed
[edit]- "Middle-earth eras" to collect First Age Second Age Third Age Fourth Age Elder Days Spring of Arda Years of the Lamps Years of the Trees Years of the Sun. Possibly even the Great Darkness, the Siege of Angband, and the Watchful Peace.
- "Middle-earth games" to collect the various Middle-earth related games whether cards, role-playing, videoggames, etc.
Aris Katsaris 04:21, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- I was actually already considering the latter. And the first one sounds good as well. --Aranel ("Sarah") 17:10, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- I went ahead and created Category:Middle-earth games. --Aranel ("Sarah") 17:38, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
category scope
[edit]this category should be moved to Category:J. R. R. Tolkien, since its scope appears to be everything Tolkien-related. Valinor to the best of my knowledge is not in Middle-earth, nor is the Tolkien Estate a creature of Middle-earth, etc. dab (ᛏ) 7 July 2005 13:53 (UTC)
- ok, I created this category. Non-Middle-earth references should go to that category, i.e. this one should only be used for Middle-earth proper. dab (ᛏ) 09:03, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
- AS I was told, many moons ago by Aris Katsaris, Middle-earth refers to anything in the "Legendarium" in this context. Rich Farmbrough, 16:57 12 December 2006 (GMT).
Requested a Pock-bot run
[edit]Let's see what it comes up with. Rich Farmbrough, 16:02 12 December 2006 (GMT).
- Let me know how long it takes. I might do something similar for Category:Tolkien, though I suspect the results of both runs will just replicate what is at Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Tolkien_articles_by_quality/1? It will, of course, pick up any articles that haven't had the WikiProject template put on their talk page, but does PuckBot read the assessments in the same way as Mathbot does? Carcharoth 16:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- A while, seems to be the answer. Perhaps it's self throttled. Rich Farmbrough, 16:40 12 December 2006 (GMT).
- I was going to create a full sized category tree by hand for the Tolkien articles, to update what is already at Portal:Middle-earth/Categories. I find it easier to go through things after they've been organised like that. A lot of work also went into Category:Middle-earth redirects, and now that 'redirects as anchored section links' work, those redirects can be plugged into the category system and used to direct people to the relevant part of lists of characters, and suchlike. Sorry to go off the topic here, but would you know how best to find redirects and start something like this? Carcharoth 17:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure what you mean. Apart from the cat, you can do "what links here" and search for "redirect". Rich Farmbrough, 10:18 13 December 2006 (GMT).
- That is what I have been doing. But it gets very tedious very quickly. Getting back to the Pock-bot run, I see that it listed all the redirects that I'd put in a category, and the WikiProject categories which I'd linked into the article space categories. I thought that was a good idea at the time, but a soft link in the main ME and Tolkien category blurbs (at the top of a category page) is probably a better way to do this. I hope to have some time over Christmas to finish the organisation I started on with the category pages, and maybe a new Pock-bot run after that will return more useful results. Maybe you are happy with the results though - were they what you were expecting? Carcharoth 10:22, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
