1956 – Suez Crisis: During an invasion of the Rafah, Israeli soldiers shot and killed almost 111 Palestinian refugees and local inhabitants.
1945 – Sudirman was elected the first commander-in-chief of the Indonesian Armed Forces.
1970 – The deadliest tropical cyclone in history made landfall on the coast of East Pakistan (Bangladesh), killing at least 250,000 people.
1973 – The first episode of Last of the Summer Wine, the longest-running television sitcom in history, premiered on the BBC.
2014 – The European Space Agency lander Philae (artist's impression shown) touched down on 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko, becoming the first spacecraft to land on a comet.

1954 - Ellis Island closes after processing over 20 million immigrants to the United States since its opening in 1892.

Loch Ness Monster

The reference to phtographs being taken on this day in 1933 by Hugh Gray does not have any mention whatever in the article on the Loch Ness Monster. It may have been confused with photographs that were taken in 1934 and which were revealed in 1994 as fakes. Furry 08:00, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification requested

Under births, Tevin Campbell is listed as being born in 1976, but his page says (twice) that he was born in 1978. Thicks001 (talk) 23:19, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

Continuing the ongoing effort to reduce the size of the Births and Deaths sections to make them manageable, I've removed some celebrities with few or no articles in other wikipedias, moving the entries to the appropriate Year in Topic article if they were not already present.
