Hey thanks for adding the Prince album images. I'm wikififying them and adding to the "album covers" category. Let's get this Prine section looking good! --Mista Tee July 13, 2005

Image tips
[edit]Hello!
Thanks for uploading some pictures to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the specific requirements for newly uploaded images.
- Pick an image name.
- When uploading an image, pick a file name that is short, descriptive, and unique. Remember that many images may be uploaded about the same topic, and remember that names are case sensitive.
- Source the image.
- On the image description page, explain where the image came from. If you created the image yourself, then say so. If it's from the web, give a URL. If it's a screenshot of a movie or game, or a scan from a book, give the title.
- Provide copyright and license information.
- This part is a little bit trickier, but it's very important. The copyright of the image generally belongs to whomever created it.
- If it's a photograph you took, or an image you created (modifying an image that already exists doesn't count) in software like Photoshop or GIMP, then you own the copyright. To upload it to Wikipedia, you must agree to license it under the GFDL (which allows anyone to use it, but requires that they give credit to the original author and requires that any further edit to the image be licensed under the GFDL as well) or release it into the public domain (which allows anyone to use it for any purpose without restriction.) Do this by placing an appropriate tag on the image description page, like {{GFDL}} or {{PD}}. Be sure to mention that you created the image. If you're using {{PD}}, you may also want to use {{NoRightsReserved}}, since there is some dispute as to whether one may grant items into the public domain.
- If you didn't create the image, or the copyright somehow belongs to another party (like a screenshot, which you might "create", but the copyright belongs to the author of the movie or video game), then you need to find another tag that describes the copyright status of the image. Images used on Wikipedia need to be free for our use and the use of sites which reproduce our content. This means that images cannot have a restriction such as "only for use by Wikipedia", or "for non-commercial use only", or "for educational use". Images without a free license may be usable in certain articles under fair use, but such a use should be justified on the image description page.
- Describe the image.
- To another reader, the image may not be immediately understood. A caption in an article doesn't explain the image to a visitor who sees it on its image page. Put a brief explanation of what is in the image on the image description page, similar to what you might include in a caption on an article.

"Hot Thing"
[edit]Re: Prince (artist): I believe "Hot Thing" did chart based on airplay, after it was released as the B-side to "I Could Never..." A B-side charting on its own might be worth noting in the article. tregoweth 23:49, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
Use of names
[edit]In several of your recent contributions, you refer to Gregg Alexander by his first name, while persons should be referred to by surname only in Wikipedia after their initial mentioning. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Subsequent_uses_of_names. Just wanted to let you know so you can avoid this mistake in the future. --Fritz S. 12:48, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]Thanks for the props, M.C. You're doing a great job yourself. Speaking of Prince, do you know about the DTT? (MistaTee 13:09, 16 August 2005 (UTC))
DTT = Databank Transcription Team DTT, a site I created and work on for Prince lyrics.
Re: Unreleased Gregg songs
[edit]I didn't include them in the list before because for most of them there's so little information and I don't think they're that noteworthy... Also, a seperate list with unreleased songs would be very incomplete because we hardly ever get to know much about songs he writes/produces unless they are released. There are so many songs we know nothing about listed in the different codex... But if you want to include such a list, just go ahead.
Oh, and please use my Talk page insead of my User page for disscusions... --Fritz S. 14:18, August 18, 2005 (UTC)

Alejandro Cao de Benos
[edit]I approve of the change you made to this man's biography. You have balanced it out, although I still do not see why he has an entry on an encyclopaedia. He is unimportant, even in North Korea - Kim Jong-Il refuses to meet him. He threatened my life after I published an article on North Korea's famine. He is a sick individual and one does not know what he is capable of.--195.92.67.68 15:46, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- Hi MC, do you know why there was no VfD yet for the Cao_de_Benos page? This is the classical example of a page misused to publish an exaggerated self-description and to advertise personal links and distribute propaganda. Greetings from Gamnamu 15:04, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Do you realise that your edit does not match your summary? You actually added the word "great" back into the article when referring to 50 Cent once being a drug dealer. Hall Monitor 17:44, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
Korean Friendship Association
[edit]If you think that the edits to Korean Friendship Association were appropriate then I'll concede the point to you. These articles have been vandalized frequently so when I saw the addition of the ad-laden website I assumed bad faith. I've removed that link but left the rest of the edits. Thanks for caring about obscure topics like this. Cheers, -Willmcw 09:19, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Suggestions on use of your sparetime
[edit]Son, if I were you I would take community college classes in your spare time. Such will get you ahead time university. It will also help train you for unviversity level work. This the advice I give own younger brother.
your opinions
[edit]I agree with your opinions of Kim Jong ill and North Korea. Luckily Kim Jong Ill probally will not be in power to much longer Kim Jong ill is now well into his 60's yet is known as a heavy drinker. With any luck perhaps he will die of natural causes.
your future
[edit]You seem like a bright young chap. I urge you to study hard. Perhaps you could go into an area where you could make a difference such as law or diplomacy.
Hmm... does this imply that Wikipedia is not an area "where you could make a difference"? I wonder whether user:141.154.140.63 has ever read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, have you read it?--Mohamo 07:12, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

re: Hi
[edit]Hey there. :) Unlike your article, mine was written with Utterly Serious Content (because Wikipedia is Serious Business) and my school never really noticed or cared. The article was vandalized a lot a few weeks ago but it tapered off after the article was protected. ♥♥purplefeltangel♥♥ 19:09, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
- If you want to know more about Satanism, the articles on Satanism and The Church of Satan and Anton LaVey are good places to start. As you can see, Satanists don't actually worship Satan. I personally think Satanism is extremely stupid, because it is a religion of "nonconformity" which advocates adhering to a specific moral code (how conformist is that) and it's in general just like every other Neo-pagan religion ever, except that they use a "scary" name to make themselves look cool. Do you have AIM or MSN? ♥♥purplefeltangel♥♥ 21:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
New Rads songs
[edit]I noticed you added a couple of articles about the songs from Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too which, of course, is great, but I think it might be better to have these decribtions of the songs as subsections of the album article instead of seperate article stubs (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Music/Notability and Music Guidelines/Songs). Mind if I merge them?
That way, we'd also increase the quality of the album article (I still think it would be great to get that to FA status) --Fritz S. (Talk) 13:34, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
A taunt
[edit]- (m)Seriously, this is a minor edit, don't bother checking it
Now that's protesting a little too much. It almost requires checking. [thanks for catching spelling mistakes, but it'd attract less attention if you just said so.] Cheers, -Willmcw 10:09, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Re: Quote
[edit]You're right, it isn't really clear... he said "while performing" so it's ambigious if he meant only life shows; I assumed he was refering to performing in general (he hardly wore the hat in the first video, and then in the second, shortly before their brake up, you never get to see his eyes). Maybe we should keep that out of the caption all together, especially as the quote is already in the text right next to it, and just write "Alexander, wearing his trademark bucket hat in the "Someday We'll Know" music video" ?
Also, recently I'm beginning to like your idea of a Quotations section, to put things like that bit from Joni Mitchell and that thing from Brian Wilson... (I know I was against that originally, this kinda helped changing my mind) --Fritz S. (Talk) 14:01, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Nice to see another Yoko fan around
[edit]Woah, that was a speedy reply. Sadly, I lack the Starpeace bootleg myself; I'm basing the information off of a description on BootlegZone.com. I'm looking for it as we speak, though. (You did a great job on the Starpeace album page, by the way.) Tenniru 03:36, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
New Radicals lead
[edit]Hi. I just want to let you know that "New Radicals was" is correct usage in American English. I have confirmed this with 2 English professors at my university. RJN 02:24, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Mother single
[edit]I don't really know. As I still doubt it was every released (I guess they probably stopped that after having pressed some copies; I mean I'm sure we would have noticed the release of a third single back then) and there probably isn't much to write about it (no video, etc.) I don't think it should have an article of its own (but I wouldn't really mind if you want to put one up, either). Also, I'm not sure we could add any references for that... All I can really think of right now is dropping the line "one-track promotional single" from the discography. And maybe we should add a short paragraph about it at the end of the History section, with what little information we have about it.--Fritz S. (Talk) 10:22, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- I just rewrote the paragraph a bit to avoid POV, weasel words etc. as I'm still thinking about nominating the article as FAC sometime soon Hope you don't mind. Anyway, are you sure the quote from the sticker is correct? The only image I could find is one where it says "includes 'You Get What You Give' 'I Don't Wanna Die Anymore' 'Someday We'll Know'"... --Fritz S. (Talk) 14:49, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- I removed that because the answer is very likely just "money". And they don't really need the band around to release their material, just think about how many Tupac albums have be released since his death.--Fritz S. (Talk) 23:05, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Request for edit summary
[edit]Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 9% for major edits and 31% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 131 minor edits in the article namespace.)
This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 04:13, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Red links ARE cool!
[edit]I've reverted your changes to Joni Mitchell. I don't know where you got the idea that red links are not good. They serve a very useful purpose. They let people know that articles which should exist do not exist. So please leave any red links that seem like they could eventually be linked to a reasonable article. Thanks. -- Samuel Wantman 05:39, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't notice the compilations. Those probably don't deserve to be every written. The two regular albums could remain red. I was mistakenly under the impression that you were just removing links because they were red (this is a common thing). I'll undo my reversion of the compilations. -- Samuel Wantman 06:34, 6 March 2006 (UTC)color="red">C]]) 06:30, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:JM Clarity.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:JM Clarity.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an arguement why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Prince song titles
[edit]Hey MC, just because a word in the title of a song is short, it doesn't mean it should not be capped. See wikipedia's style policy. I think there's like 8 words that should be uncapped: to, and, a, the, for, through, an, and a couple others I think. Please check before changes more titles. From what I can gather, in, it, is, etc should be capitalized. Thanks... --MistaTee 21:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Carly Hennessy
[edit]Yes, I remember reading that years ago... It's definitely a good source (The other good article on her I found is the one I used as a reference in the Ultimate High article). Currently her article only redirects to the album, so it really might need some work... --Fritz S. (Talk) 10:29, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Prince 1977.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Prince 1977.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 01:15, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:Prince 1995 With Guitar.sized.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Prince 1995 With Guitar.sized.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use Image:Johnsafran.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Johnsafran.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree (talk) 02:04, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Black.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:Black.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image with an unknown source or an unknown copyright status which has been tagged as such for more than 7 days, and it still lacks the necessary information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Black.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. AfD nomination of Yuo
[edit]An editor has nominated Yuo, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yuo and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:44, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:BillyJoel Fire.JPG)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:BillyJoel Fire.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:32, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Raspberry Taste.GIF
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Raspberry Taste.GIF. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Kid creole.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Kid creole.jpg.
Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 19:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Template:User Scatman
[edit]A tag has been placed on Template:User Scatman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Prince 1999 12inch.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Prince 1999 12inch.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:41, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ejfetters (talk) 08:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Prince Gold.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Prince Gold.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ejfetters (talk) 08:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Prince SymbolAlbum.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Prince SymbolAlbum.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

The article Mike Pelino has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Merely a touring member, no other claim for notability - fails WP:NMUSIC.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. kiac. (talk-contrib) 12:23, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello, M.C. Brown Shoes, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!
I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, Howling at the Moon, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! —Ryulong (竜龙) 11:18, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Prince DoMeBaby.jpg

Proposed deletion of My Console
[edit]The article My Console has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails most of WP:NMG. No certifications (as far as I can see), hasn't been the subject of multiple non-trivial secondary works, and wasn't in rotation by a major radio network.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. StewdioMACK Talk page 02:45, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
