[edit]I have lived in Denia (we call it the Poble de M'en Fot) for ten years now and have always been told and taught that the name Denia comes from the early Greek settlers, who built a temple to Diana, and it became a major centre. The romans called it Dianium, which predates the arabic hypothesis by a couple, (700?), years.Guille 21:16, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I agree with the above in part. All the references I have studied (printed, museums, archaelogical and official websites) refer to evidence of Iberian settlements in the area, and that Dénia proper was founded by the Romans as Dianium. However I haven't seen any printed evidence for the Greek temple to Diana. Only on this Wiki have I seen the thesis that the name Dénia is derived from the Arabic. Instead the inference is that the Arabic name is Arabised "Dianium". I have a printed reference (in Spanish), on the foundation of Dianium by the Romans around 2000 years ago, and will edit the page shortly (unless someone else does) Chrisbj 17:56, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

- Nevermind, the picture is gone. --Dante Alighieri 20:05 23 May 2003 (UTC)
Yeah, I had a picture of the ferry there, expecting it to show just like in ordinary Wiki. But then I read about the upload of images... User:Josv

Dénia → Denia — Relisted for further input. Jafeluv (talk) 11:08, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
The primary name of the article should be Denia as this is English Wikipedia. Reference to the Valencia article for consistency Cyber Fox (talk) 23:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

- Support - everyone European with English as their first language writes the city as Denia, thus it should be depicted as such on English Wikipedia. --Cyber Fox (talk) 13:18, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose - until some evidence of English usage is actually given. Knepflerle (talk) 00:35, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Very Weak Support. For places unknown in English, the Valencian name should be used; for places better known, the English (in this case also Spanish) name should be used. Denia is known a little so it's pretty much borderline (unlike Saragossa / Zaragoza, which I feel is misplaced...). I recommend tossing a coin. SnowFire (talk) 20:58, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose - if there isn't a clear preference in English sources, the official Valencian name should prevail. --Carles Noguera (talk) 16:11, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Above population density km2 is wrong in the infobox. How can it be corrected? Regards -- Sweepy (talk) 16:59, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
