Dear Mr. Martin:
Thank you so much for writing on Yolanda Vadiz, an unrecognized name by the media, and the artistic community in general, who at the young age of 28, passed away, in 1987. I'm sure if she were alive today, The NY Met, as well as La Scala of Milan, would be presenting the colatura soprano, they seem to be lacking these days. I will clarify, before making such a bold a statement, that a little while before she died, Yolanda had finished auditioning for La Scala, and was also getting ready for an audition at the Met of NY, where she had been invited . And before all this, Placido Domingo, after having heard her, in the early 80's decided to record with her, the zarzuela, "La Francisquita", a production which did not come to pass because of the sudden earthquake in Mexico, which interferred with Sr. Domingo's plans. I feel that hearing information about this exceptional person does a bit of justice to the puertorrican community and the latin community in general. There is reason to boast. But actually it is for something much greater than the mentioned. You can only experience it when listening to her latest CD, reproduced from her first and last album. When you hear this CD, you will understand that the impact you experience when listening to her has all to do with the anointing of God in her voice. It is unique and perhaps, without fear of exageration, the greatest musical experience you will ever have. Annette -
A Christian since her teen years - what was she before, a Buddhist? RickK 06:31, 17 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Mr Rick. There was a huge "spiritual movement", if you can understand that, in PR in the 70's, which changed the island completely. So much so, that more than half of the population has moved away from catholicism. And that sir, is a big deal, if you know your history.
