This seems a good idea, but the page title really needs to go in automatically. The problem is that for multiple word titles, this doesn't work since {{PAGENAME}} will result in only the first word being searched and {{PAGENAMEE}} will put underscores in which prevents most search engines (other than Yahoo) finding the search term. Also, directories would probably be better with a link to the relevant category rather than searching them (especially since the ODP search is regularly disabled), and that can't be automated. This would probably be best as a special page in the same way ISBNs are. Although having them in an article is more useful and quicker to click on, there are a lot of search engines, so the list of options could end up fairly large. Angela 23:12, Sep 25, 2004 (UTC)

If you read my post at Wikipedia:Village pump (news), it is the intent that this page be used as a template, similar to the ISBN page. [[User:Poccil|Peter O. (Talk)]] 01:00, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)
People want their search results fast, not a page full of links to choose between. However... perhaps we should have a user preference for search engine and just automatically use that engine? Then everyone can choose their preferred bias, if any. Jamesday 12:25, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I have selected which work with underscores, and put them in the more compact Template:Spn. It would be good to have something like this in every page, without the need to put a template tag.--Patrick 00:36, 2004 Oct 7 (UTC)

Erm, is anybody doing anything with this page? It looks abandoned... ~MDD4696 02:49, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
